FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield swept Saint Peter's 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's volleyball action on Saturday.
Senior Stephanie Mills (Albuquerque, N.M./Del Norte) finished with a team-best 12 kills. Senior Laura Reinhart (Belvidere, N.J./Newton) and freshman Meredith Przybocki (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) both tallied five kills in the contest. Junior Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Truyillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) registered a team-high 10 digs.
Hadley Orr and Caitlin Stapleton led the way for the Stags, each tallying double-digit kills.
In the first set, both teams exchanged points throughout the set to tie the score at 22. With the score tied, both teams would continue to exchange points to keep the set within reach for either side. Fairfield would prevail, taking the first set 28-26.
Second set, both would start out trading points to tie the set at six. With the score tied, Fairfield would go on a 14-6 run to take a 20-12 lead. The Stags would not look back, taking the second set 25-17.
In the third game, Fairfield would start quick, taking an early 10-6 lead. Saint Peter's would claw back, going on an 8-3 run to take a 14-13 advantage. The Stags would respond, going on a 7-4 run to take a 20-18 lead. Fairfield would hold on to its lead, taking the third set 25-19.
With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 3-15 overall and 1-5 in MAAC play.
Saint Peter's has a quick turnaround, returning to action Oct. 6 to take on Quinnipiac University.
