BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team concluded its weekend road trip with a loss to Canisius on Sunday.
Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Truyillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) registered a team-best five kills on the afternoon. Kaitlyn Sitton (Brush Praire, Wash./Prairie) finished with a team-high 15 assists and Jenny Pliska (Portland, Ore./La Salle College Prep) tallied nine digs.
In the first set, Canisius took control early, taking an early 13-4 lead. Saint Peter's would struggle to put offense together, as the Golden Griffins went on to win the first set 25-13.
Second set, Canisius would continue its offense surge, starting the set with a 17-5 advantage. Saint Peter's would score three straight points to cut the deficit to nine. However, Canisius would maintain its lead, taking the second set 25-15.
In the third set, the Peacocks were much more competitive, starting the set with a 12-6 lead. Canisius would respond, going on a 10-4 run to tie the set at 16. With the set tied, Saint Peter's would score three consecutive points to take a 19-16 advantage. The Golden Griffins would score three straight of its own to tie the set at 19. Canisius would pull away, ending the third set on a 6-2 run to win 25-21.
Emily Elek led the Golden Griffins with eight kills. Sydney Palka registered 15 assists and two players finished with double-digit digs.
Saint Peter's returns to action Nov. 2, when they welcome Fairfield University to the Yanitelli Center for its conference match.
