NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) registered a team-best nine kills in a losing effort against Iona College in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on Sunday.
Stephanie Mills (Albuquerque, N.M./Del Norte) tallied eight kills in the contest. Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) paced the Peacocks with 18 assists and Jenny Pliska (Portland, Ore./La Salle College Prep) finished with a team-high 18 digs.
In the first set, Saint Peter's jumped out to an early 8-2 advantage. Following a timeout, Iona would begin to chip away at the deficit, going on a 12-6 run to tie the set at 14. The Peacocks would call a timeout to stop the run. However, the Gaels would finish the set on an 11-5 run to the first set 25-19.
Second set, both teams would trade points to tie the set at 21. With the set tied, the Gaels finished on a 4-1 run to take the second set, 25-21.
In the third set, both teams would exchange points to tie the set at 16. With the set even, Iona would score five consecutive points to take a 21-16 advantage. The Gaels would hold on to take the third set, 25-18.
Saint Peter's returns to action Oct. 26, when they travel to upstate New York to take on Canisius.
