JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Iona swept Saint Peter's 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's volleyball action on Wednesday.
Laura Reinhart (Belvidere, N.J./Newton) paced the Peacocks (3-14, 1-4 MAAC) with 10 kills while Jenny Pliska (Portland, Ore./La Salle College Prep) recorded a team-high 12 digs and Kaitlyn Sitton (Brush Praire, Wash./Praire) recorded a team-best 13 assists in the loss.
Alicja Pawelec fueled the Gaels (5-10, 3-2 MAAC) with 15 kills while Catrina Warren tallied13 kills and 13 digs. Natalie Ziskin notched 34 assists in the winning effort.
In the first game, Iona jumped out to an 11-6 lead before Saint Peter's came storming back to trim the margin to 15-14 after a Reinhart kill. With the Gaels leading 18-15, Iona rolled off the next seven points to take the first game, 25-15.
The Peacocks scored the first two points of the second game after a kill by Reinhart and a miscue by Iona. Saint Peter's would grab a 10-6 lead after an attacking error. The two teams then battled back and fourth with the game being tied at 20 and 22 before the Gaels scored the final three points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third game remained close until Iona closed the set and the match on a 12-4 run to secure the victory at 25-13.
The Peacocks return to action on Saturday at Fairfield. Match time is 1 p.m.
