PROVIDENCE, R.I – Sophomore Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) tallied a team-best 11 kills in a losing effort against non-conference opponent Providence College on Wednesday.
Junior Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Truyillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) registered eight kills while senior Stephanie Mills (Albuquerque, N.M./Del Norte) and freshman Meredith Przybocki (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) finished with four kills each. Freshman Kaitlyn Sitton (Brush Praire, Wash./Prairie) paced the Peacocks with 16 assists and senior Jenny Pliska (Portland, Ore./La Salle College Prep) tallied 12 digs.
In the first set, both teams would exchange points with Saint Peter's out front with a 7-6 lead. The Friars would go on a 6-1 run to take a 12-8 advantage. The Peacocks would answer, going on a 7-3 run to tie the set at 15. Providence would follow up with a 8-2 run and would not look back, taking the first set 25-21.
Second set, Providence started quick, taking an early 8-3 advantage. Saint Peter's would go on a 8-4 run to cut the deficit to one. With the score 12-11 in favor of Providence, they would go on to score 10 consecutive points to take 22-11 lead. The Friars would go on to take the set, 25-18.
In the third set, the Friars would pick up where they left off, starting the set with an early 12-6 lead. Providence would hold on to that lead and take the third set, 25-16.
With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 3-20 overall. Providence improves to 11-11 with the win.
Saint Peter's returns to action Oct. 19-20, when they travel to New York for the weekend to take on Manhattan and Iona.
