The Saint Peter's University women's indoor track and field squad recorded their highest ever finish at the Metropolitan Championships, placing third in a strong field of teams. The men also finished exceptionally well, placing 5th.
"We entered the building feeling as though we were finally ready to show the real Peacock program- and for the most part, we did", commented Head Coach Mike Massone.
Leading the way on the women's side was freshman Morgan McLaughlin, who won the 60m hurdles, and broke Ronnah Parham's school record by posting an ECAC qualifying time of 8.69.
Stefanny Laureano, Gina Laureano, Jamelia Johnson and the 4x400 relay team also qualified for the ECACs.
Laureano took second in the 400 meters, running a personal best 56.23. Nocerino took fourth in the 500 meters; posting a personal best, while also establishing a new Peacock record of 1:15.03. Johnson took second in the Long Jump with a 5.79 leap, and the 4x400 relay team of Laureano, Latasha Green, Monika Miazga and Nocerino took third in an impressive time of 3:51.36.
Jaleesa Dunlap, Shona Potrzuski and Bryskie also turned in solid performances for the Peacocks. Dunlap finished fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:17.34, Potrzuski set a Saint Peter's record in the 1000m (2:57.56) while finishing fourth, Renee Brzyski won the Pentathlon with a score of 3,384.
The men's squad also fared well over the weekend; led by Lance Weaver, who broke the Met Champ Meet record in the 1000 meters, with a time of 2:28.11. Weaver's time also qualified him for IC4A's.
Jamel Presley won the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.17 and Kevin Persson placed second in the 500 meters; finishing in 1:03.76.
Isaiah Harris and freshman Dashawn Putman also turned in exceptional performances. Harris jumped 14.63 meters in the Triple Jump, and 2.02 meters in the High Jump, while Putman leapt 13.04 in the Triple and 1.97 meters in the High Jump.
Jarrek Babb had his season best 400 time of 49.63; good for a third place finish. Wellington Brown placed fourth in his first Heptathlon for the Peacocks.
Saint Peter's returns to the track at East Stroudsburg on February 2nd.
