Box Score Three players finished in double-figures for Saint Peter's, but it was not enough as the Peacocks dropped a 75-60 decision to the visiting Siena College Saints this evening.
With the loss, the Peacocks drop to 0-16, 0-5 MAAC while Siena improved to 6-10, 2-3 MAAC.
The Peacocks led briefly to open the game, but Siena established an advantage at 14:29 that they would keep for the remainder of the contest.
Aziza May recorded a team-high 19 points and added 8 assists. Kristal Edwards finished with 15 points, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 rebounds, while Kaydine Bent added 14 points, 7 boards, 2 steals.
Saint Peter's opened up the game leading the visiting Saints 5-4; paced by buckets from Kaydine Bent and Aziza May. Two lead changes and one tied score occurred before Siena outscored the Peacocks 6-2 over the next few minutes to go in front 14-10 (13:21).
The Saints managed to extend their lead to as many as six points, but junior guard Aziza May scored five straight to make it a one-point game in the eighth minute (23-22). A 4-0 Siena spurt reopened a five-point cushion, but May again had the answer for the Peacocks- draining a trifecta to make the score 27-25.
A two-point basket by freshman center Hala Mostafa knotted the score at 27 just under a minute later, but a trey by Siena's Lily Grenci at 2:57 gave the visitors back the lead. Siena would out-score the Peacocks by a 6-2 margin in the last three minutes of the half to head into the intermission leading 36-29.
For the half, Saint Peter's shot 39.3% from the floor and 5-10 from long distance. Aziza May led the hosts with 13 first half points, going 3-3 from three-point range.
Siena shot 50% from the field, 44.4% from three-point range and 75% from the free-throw line (6-8). They were led by Lily Grenci's 20 points in the stanza.
The visitors opened up the second half on a 6-2 run to establish their first double-digit advantage of the game (42-31) and force Saint Peter's Acting Head Coach, Tiffany Jones, to call a time out at 17:36. Siena maintained at least a 10-point lead, until a layup by freshman Emily Brown at 13:39 brought the Peacocks within 8 at 46-38.
Fifty-nine seconds later, back-to-back layups by Lily Grenci reopened a double-digit lead for Siena, that they would sustain for the next five minutes until four straight Peacock points made it an eight-point game (58-50). Saint Peter's would be outscored 10-4 in the next four minutes of action to allow the Saints to establish their largest lead up until that point (14, 68-54).
Saint Peter's trailed by as many as 17 following a two-point basket by Kate Zarotney at 1:36.
Overall, the hosts shot 41.2% from the floor, 46.7% from three-point rane and 68.8% from the line. Siena shot 51.9%, 44.4% and 83.3%, respectively. The Peacocks were out-rebounded by a 36-26 margin and committed 20 turnovers while forcing 21.
Siena was led by Lily Grenci's 30 points on 11-17 shooting. Clara Sole Anglada added 10 points.
Saint Peter's returns to action this Sunday for a road contest at Iona.
