Men's Hoops Drops 66-53 Decision To Siena On The Road

Despite coming back from a 13-point first half deficit, the Saint Peter's University men's basketball team dropped a 66-53 decision to Siena at the Times Union Center this afternoon. With the loss, the Saints snap a four-game losing streak against the Peacocks in conference play and improve to 4-13, 2-4 MAAC, while the Peacocks drop to 6-10, 1-5 MAAC. 

Saint Peter's has now lost four straight games, dating back to their last win over Central Connecticut State on December 29th. 

The hosts used a 14-0 run to establish a twelve-point advantage mid-way through the opening frame, and were able to head into the half-time break leading the Peacocks by a 29-20 margin.

Saint Peter's opened up the second half on a 14-3 tear, paced by 8 points from sophomore forward Markese Tucker to take a one-point lead (34-33) over the Saints at 13:11. Both teams exchanges buckets, until Siena rattled off five straight points to regain a four-point cushion (40-36).

Back-to-back baskets by Desi Washington and Blaise Ffrench made it a one-point game just under the ten minute mark. The Peacocks kept within striking distance and single digits, until consecutive treys by Rich Audu reopened a ten-point lead, 57-47, for the Saints with 3:17 to play. 

A layup by Patrick Jackson less than a minute later brought the visitors within 8, but that would be the closest Saint Peter's got for the remainder of the contest as they could only muster four more points before time expired. 

Saint Peter's was led by Desi Washington's 16 points (4 three point field goals). Yvon Raymond (10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals) and Markese Tucker (10) also finished in double-figures. 

Overall, the Peacocks shot 39.6% from the floor and 33.3% from three-point range. Saint Peter's went 5-12 from the line (41.7%), all of which they took in the second half.

Siena shot 42.5% from the field, 35.7% from beyond the arc and 75% from the charity stripe.

The Saints were led by O.D Anosike's 20 points. Anosike went 12-17 from the free throw line in the contest. 

Saint Peter's committed 19 turnovers and forced 16, and were out-rebounded 28-27.

The Peacocks return home this Thursday for an ESPN3 game against Rider at 8:30pm.
