Women's Soccer Unable to Complete Comeback, Fall to LIU-Brooklyn, 2-1

The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team (1-8) was unable to come back from a two-goal deficit and fell to the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds (2-5) this evening.

Senior Toni Smith scored both Blackbird goals in the first half to pace the home team in the victory. Smith scored her first marker in the seventeenth minute, kicking in a loose ball following a collision at the top of the box. Just over eight minutes later, she added the game winner off a cross from Allison King (24:43).

Saint Peter's threatened to come back, as they came within one following sophomore Amanda Feldstein's second goal of the season. Feldstein beat her defender and snuck a shot past the Blackboard goalie with less that sixteen minutes remaining in the opening frame (29:38).

Both teams would play to a scoreless half in the second frame, with Saint Peter's attempting just 1 shot. Senior keeper Caitlin Hoffer finished with 4 saves in the contest. The Blackbirds attempted 15 shots in the match, 6 on goal, while the Peacocks had 5 shots, just 1 on goal.

Feldstein attempted 4 of Saint Peter's 6 shots.

Saint Peter's took just 1 corner kick in the game, to LIU's 6.

The Peacocks will enjoy an eleven day break, before resuming play on September 25th against Princeton at Jaroschak Field. This will be Saint Peter's last non-conference match up, as they travel to Riverdale, NY to begin MAAC action on September 29th against Manhattan College.
