Peacocks Conclude 2012 Season with 4-2 Loss on Senior Day

Recap:

The Saint Peter's College (20-34, 10-14 MAAC) baseball team concluded the 2012 season with a 4-2 loss to Iona College (21-33, 10-14 MAAC) this afternoon. The Peacocks trailed for the entirety of the contest, as the Gaels scored their first marker in the second inning. Senior right handed pitcher Dom Macaluso started in his final game as a Peacock and was credited with the loss, after giving up 3 earned runs, 6 hits, 1 walk and striking out 3 in 6-2/3 innings of work.  

Saint Peter's trailed 2-0 into the bottom of the third, until Matt Speckmann led off the inning with the double and later scored on a single by shortstop Justyn Carter for the first Peacock run of the game.

The visiting Gaels tacked on one run in the sixth, and another in the seventh to lead 4-1, until SPC added their second run of the game, unearned, in the bottom of the seventh. Preston Aldridge reached first on an error by the Gael's third basemen and came home on two basehit by Brian Koster.

While SPC out-hit Iona 10-9, they stranded a total 10 base runners. Each team committed 3 errors in the contest. Justyn Carter (2-4, 1 walk, 1 RBI), Chris Grimes (2-3, 1 walk) and Mike Scicutella (2-4) each collected two hits in the loss.

Seniors Joe Jimenez (1.0 IP, 2 hits, 1 ER, 2 BB) and Anthony DeLeo (1.1 IP, 1 hit, 1 strike out) both pitched in relief of Macaluso.

Prior to the beginning of the game, seniors Preston Aldridge, Justyn Carter, Anthony DeLeo, Joe Jimenez, Brian Koster, Dom Macaluso, Mike Scicutella and Russ Stupienski were honored for their contributions and careers as members of the Saint Peter's College baseball program.
