The Saint Peters College baseball team (19-32, 9-12 MAAC) dropped an 8-4 decision to Manhattan College (26-24, 15-6 MAAC) this afternoon. The Peacocks led by as many as three runs heading into the bottom of the third, but the Jaspers scored five markers in their last two innings at bat to take the lead. Dom Macaluso pitched 2 innings in relief and gave up 4 hits, 2 walks and 5 earned runs to receive the loss.

Saint Peters struck first in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Chris Grimes to score Justyn Carter. Carter led off the game with a walk and proceeded to steal both second and third. The Peacocks added two more runs in the following inning on a two-run double by Nick Henriquez to left field to establish a 3-1 lead. Matt Speckmann, who led off the third with a double to right center, would score SPCs last run of the game, as Chris Grimes singled him home in the next at bat.

Manhattan scored one run in the second, third and fourth, to come within one at 4-3, and took the lead in the seventh when they scored two more runs. The Jaspers added three more runs in the eighth.

Matt Mancini started the game for Saint Peters and gave up 9 hits, 3 walks and 3 earned runs in 5.1 innings. The Peacocks finished with 10 hits to the Jaspers 14, and each team committed 1 and 2 errors, respectively.

Four Peacocks finished with two hits each; Justyn Carter (2-4, 1 walk, 1 run), Brian Koster (2-4, 1 run), Russ Stupienski (2-4, 1 run) and Nick Henriquez (2-4, 2 RBI).

Saint Peters returns home next weekend for their last series of the year against Iona College on Friday, May 18th at 3:30pm.
