Recap:

The Saint Peter's College baseball team completed their first ever season sweep of Seton Hall University, who currently sit tied for third place in the Big East, with a 7-0 win Tuesday afternoon. The Peacocks defeated the defending Big East champs earlier this season, 3-1, on March 20th in South Orange, NJ. This also marks just the fourth time in program history that SPC has defeated SHU. Senior right handed pitcher Joe Jimenez threw 115 pitches in 9 innings, while giving up only 5 hits, 1 walk and striking out 6.

Matt Speckmann led off the game with an eleven-pitch walk, after being down in the count 0-2. The third basemen was then balked over to second, where he scored on a line drive single to left field by Chris Grimes to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth with one out, Preston Aldridge doubled to deep right, followed by a four-pitch walk to Jim Smith. In the next at bat, Alberto Rodriguez hit a chopper back to the mound that Pirate pitcher Greg Terhune caught off-balance. Terhune was forced to throw to first to first, advancing the base runners to second and third. Matt Mancini made the most of the situation, lining a single to center and that scored both runners (3-0).

Saint Peter's added their fourth marker after Mike Scicutella led off the fifth with a triple down the right field line and scored on a sacrifice fly by Speckmann. A second sacrifice fly, this time by pinch hitter Justyn Carter in the sixth, accounted for the fifth Peacock run of the game.

A double to deep center field by Chris Grimes scored Speckmann and Ariel Ramirez in the seventh inning (7-0).

Joe Jimenez, who started for the first time this season, lowered his earned run average 23 points to 6.35.

Chris Grimes led the Peacocks going 2-4 with 3 RBI while Matt Speckmann finished 2-2, with 1 walk, 2 runs scored and an RBI. Preston Aldridge also had a multi-hit game, going 2-4 from the plate with 1 run.

Saint Peter's returns to MAAC action this weekend, with a three-game series at Niagara University starting Saturday, May 5th.
