The Saint Peter's College (11-20, 3-3 MAAC) baseball team lost both games of today's double header (6-4, 4-3) against Marist College (9-16, 4-4), marking the first time since mid-March that the Peacocks have dropped consecutive contests. Matt Yuhas pitched just 2.1 innings in game one and gave up 7 hits and 4 earned runs to receive the loss, while Dom Macaluso (4.1 IP, 5 hitst, 2 earned runs) gave up the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth for the game two loss.
SPC found themselves in the hole early on in the first game, as Marist established a 1-0 lead in the second inning and added three additional runs in the following frame. The Peacocks scored their first marker in the fourth on an RBI single by William Rawson scoring Brian Koster.
Saint Peter's managed to get within one in the sixth after scoring three runs on three hits, but the Red Foxes added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning to secure the win. An RBI double by Patt Farrel, an RBI single by Rawson and an RBI groundout by Matt Speckmann accounted for the last three Peacock runs.
For the game, the Red Foxes outhit the Peacocks by an 11-7 margin, while committing no errors to SPC's 2. William Rawson (2 RBI) and Brian Koster (2 runs) both finished 2-3 for Saint Peter's.
In the second game the Peacocks got on the board first in the third inning on a sac fly by Chris Grimes to score Justyn Carter, but the Red Foxes would tie the score in the bottom of the frame. Saint Peter's added a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth, including the go-ahead run, both driven in by Brian Schroeder. In the fourth Schroeder blasted a solo home run to left field and in the fifth he grounded out to second, bringing home Chris Grimes who singled on earlier in the inning.
Dom Macaluso would give up the game-tying run in the eighth and later the game winning run in the ninth, as the Red Foxes walked off with the victory.
Brian Schroeder led the Peacocks in the loss going 2-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored, while Brian Koster finished 2-5.
Saint Peter's returns to action this Wednesday, as they travel to Brooklyn, NY to face the LIU Blackbirds at 3:30pm.
