Recap:

After dropping game one by a score of 4-3 in extra innings, the Peacocks (17-26, 8-6 MAAC) rebounded in the nightcap of this afternoon's double-header with a decisive 8-0 victory over the Rider University Broncs (15-27, 8-9 MAAC). Matt Yuhas led Saint Peter's in game two with his second consecutive complete game shutout performance, allowing just 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4 in seven innings of work. Yuhas has now pitched 14 consecutive shutout innings, dating back to his last start against Siena precisely one week ago. Dom Macaluso pitched 1.1 innings of relief in game one and gave up 4 hits and the eventual game-winning run to be credited with the loss.

Rider recorded the first marker of the game for either team in the fourth inning, but the lead proved to be short lived as SPC responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame. Brian Koster led off the stanza with a single to left center and would later score by way of an RBI double by Russ Stupienski. The Broncs regained a one-run advantage in the following inning, until the Peacocks knotted the score again in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Preston Aldridge to score Brian Schroeder.

The game would enter extra innings as both teams remained scoreless in the final three frames of regulation. Rider got on the board in the top of the tenth to go in front 3-2, but the Peacocks again responded in the bottom of the inning. SPC managed to load the bases with no outs, but could only score one run on a sacrifice fly by Nick Henriquez, bringing home Ariel Ramirez. The Broncs would score the game-winning run on base hit through the left side by Ken Kremer in the eleventh, while the Peacocks went down 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the inning.

Rider finished with 12 hits to Saint Peter's 9, with both teams leaving 12 runners on base. Brian Schroeder (2-5, 1 run) and Russ Stupienski (2-3, 1 RBI) led the Peacocks offensively.

Saint Peter's bounced back in the second game, exploding for six runs on five hits and stranding only one in the third inning. With the bases loaded, Chris Grimes doubled to left center, bringing home Matt Mancini, Justyn Carter and Russ Stupienski. In the next at bat, Brian Schroeder would walk and Nick Henriquez followed with a triple to right center field to put the Peacocks up 5-0. Matt Speckmann recorded an extra base hit of his own, doubling to right and bringing home Henriquez (6-0).

Preston Aldridge started off the sixth with a solo homerun to left center, his first of the year, while Brian Schroeder singled in Alberto Rodriguez in the same inning for the eighth Peacock run of the game.

SPC out hit the Broncs by an 11-5 margin, with both teams leaving 6 runners on base in the contest. Justyn Carter went a perfect 4-4 from the plate while scoring a run. Chris Grimes finished 1-3 with a walk and 3 RBI and Nick Henriquez finished 1-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

The Peacocks return to action tomorrow at 11am for the rubber game of the series.
