Recap:

The Saint Peter's College baseball team was defeated by Monmouth University 7-3 this evening. After trailing 3-0 for the first two innings, the Peacocks were able to cut the deficit to one following a two-run third inning, but the hosts responded with four additional runs to secure their lead and the victory. Eric Mozeika pitched 4.2 innings and gave up 6 hits, 6 walks and 4 earned runs to receive the loss.

The Hawks wasted little time getting on the board, scoring three runs on three hits in the first inning. Saint Peter's managed to get within one after scoring two markers in the third, spearheaded by a leadoff single by Matt Mancini to start the frame. After Mike Scicutella flied out to left, Matt Speckmann would reach base on a fielding error by the Hawks' second basemen, which allowed Mancini to advance to third. Zack Rawson proceeded to rip a double to right center, scoring Mancini and putting Speckmann at third. An RBI groundout by Chris Grimes brought Speckmann home for the second run of the inning (3-2).

Monmouth rebounded and scored one in the fifth and three in the sixth, while SPC could only muster one more run in the seventh on a solo home-run by Brian Schroeder.

Reigning NJCBA Division I Rookie of the Week Nick Henriquez continued his offensive prowess from last week by leading the Peacocks from the plate going 2-4. Schroeder finished 1-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run, while Mancini went 1-3 with 1 run scored.

Saint Peter's returns home this weekend after six consecutive road games, to host Rider University for a three game series starting Saturday April 28th at 12pm.
