Baseball Captures Come From Behind Victory Over Siena

After trailing 2-0 for four innings, the Saint Peter's College (14-24, 5-5 MAAC) baseball team was able to score two runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh to hold on for a 5-4 victory over Siena College (13-26, 4-6 MAAC). Justyn Carter, Nick Henriquez and Brian Schroeder each recorded three hits in the triumph, while Zach Hopf pitched 6.0 innings and gave up 3 earned runs and 10 hits while striking out three to earn his third win of the season.

Siena started the scoring early, scoring two markers in the first inning on three hits. The Peacocks left four runners on in the first four innings, but were finally able to bring home a runner in the fifth. An RBI single through the right side by William Rawson scored Matt Mancini who reached base earlier on a fielder's choice. In the next at bat, Nick Henriquez would single to center, bringing home Justyn Carter to even the score at 2-2.

Two innings later, SPC added three more runs on four hits. Mancini started off the frame singling to first, followed by a bunt single by Carter. Two batter later, Henriquez would rip a double to right field to score Mancini and advance Carter to third. Carter later scored on a fielder's choice to put Saint Peter's up 4-2, while an RBI base hit by Brian Schroeder scored Henriquez for the fifth and last Peacock run.

Hopf gave up two unearned runs in the seventh, before Anthony DeLeo (2.0 IP, 1 hit) entered the game to force three quick outs to end the inning. Dom Macaluso (1.0 IP, 1 hit) pitched a scoreless ninth and earned his fifth save of the year.

Carter (3-4, 2 runs), Henriquez (3-5, 2 RBI, 1 run) and Schroeder (3-5, 1 RBI) led the Peacocks from the plate, while Mancini finished 1-4 with 2 runs scored.

Saint Peter's wraps up their season series against the Saints with a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 10am.
