Recap:

The Saint Peter's College (10-18, 2-1 MAAC) baseball team swept today's double-header against Fairfield University (10-17, 2-4 MAAC) by scores of 2-1 and 5-1 for their first MAAC series win in exactly one calendar year. The last time the Peacocks won a MAAC series was the weekend of April 2nd (2011), when they defeated Niagara Purple Eagles two games to one. Peacock starters Matt Yuhas (game one- 7 IP, 5 hits, 1 earned run, 5 strikeouts) and Matt Mancini (game two-7.0 IP, 5 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, 1 strikeout) pitched tremendously in their respective games to each earn their third win of the season. Yuhas's complete game was capped by Matt Speckmann's game winning pinch hit up the middle in the bottom of the seventh to give SPC the victory.

Game one featured a pitchers' duel, as the score was locked at 0-0 heading into the fifth inning with both teams combining for just two hits. In the top of the fifth frame however, the Stags struck first recording a run on a sacrifice fly.

The Peacocks created all the offense they needed in the bottom of the seventh, led by a leadoff base hit to center by senior first basemen Chris Grimes. After a pitching change by the Stags Brian Koster advanced Mike Scicutella, who pinch ran for Grimes, to second by way of a sacrifice bunt. A single by Brian Schroeder scored Scicutella to tie the game at 1-1.

Schroeder, who advanced to second on the throw, moved to third two batters later as Patt Farrell grounded into a fielder's choice. Matt Speckmann brought home Schroeder with a pinch-hit single up the middle to capture the come from behind, walk-off win.

For the game both teams recorded five hits. Brian Schroeder led the Peacocks going 1-3, with a run scored and an RBI.

In game two Saint Peter's got on the board early on, scoring in the first frame. Senior shortstop Justyn Carter manufactured the run; getting on base after getting hit by a pitch, stealing second, advancing to third on a wild pitch and scoring easily on a Russ Stupienski groundout.

The Stags knotted the score at 1-1 in the third, but the Peacocks quickly recaptured the lead in the next inning scoring two runs on four hits.

Brian Koster started off the inning with a double to right center field, followed by another two-bagger by Brian Schroeder to notch the go-ahead run (2-1). An infield single by Zack Rawson in the next at bat put runners on first and third with no outs. After a fly out by Pat Farrell, Alberto Rodriguez put down a perfectly placed bunt to the Stag's second basemen, bringing home Schroeder and making the score 3-1.

Saint Peter's added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh, with RBI singles to center field by Pat Farrell and Brian Koster, respectively.

Dom Macaluso pitched two innings in relief of Mancini, giving up just 1 hit and 1 walk.

Schroeder led the Peacocks again, going a perfect 4-4, with 2 runs scored and a RBI. Justyn Carter (2-3, 1 run), Chris Grimes (2-4, 1 run), Brian Koster (2-4, 1 run, 1 RBI) and Alberto Rodriguez (2-3, 1 RBI) all finished with multi-hit games as well.

The Peacocks return to MAAC action this week, as they face Marist College for a single game on Thursday April 5th at 3pm and then a double-header on Saturday starting at 12pm.
