In their second extra inning game of the year, the Peacocks (3-16) dropped a 3-2 decision to La Salle University (9-8) Saturday afternoon. Saint Peter's tied the on two separate occasions; first in the second inning at 1-1, and then in the eighth. The Explorers however came up with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eleventh to attain the victory. Zach Hopf pitched 5.1 innings and surrendered 8 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, while striking out 5 to be credited with the loss.
Chris Grimes spearheaded the Peacocks' effort to tie the game in the second inning, as the senior reached first via a single to center field and proceeded to steal second. Advancing to third on a wild pitch, Grimes would score off an RBI groundout from James Smith.
After La Salle regained the lead in the sixth, Brian Shroeder would come to the plate as a pinch hitter and bring home Justyn Carter who doubled to left with two outs. In the bottom of eleventh however, Ed Mejias would walk the Explorers' Zack Feierstein who advanced to second by way of a sacrifice bunt. An RBI single to right field by Brendan Nortontwo batters later scored the winning run.
Chris Grimes led the Peacocks on the offensive end, going 2-3 with a walk and scoring a run. La Salle out-hit Saint Peter's 11-8 and committed 2 errors to SPC's 1.
Saint Peter's returns to action tomorrow and faceoff against St. Joseph's at 12pm.
