Saint Peter's Drops MAAC Battle to Marist

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's College Peacocks (5-20, 3-10 MAAC) dropped their second straight home game tonight, 66-47 to the Marist College Red Foxes (9-16, 4-9 MAAC). Marist used a 19-3 run in the first half to open up an 11-point lead and an 20-4 run to open up a 24-point second half lead and never looked back. Chris Burke led Saint Peter's with 12 points.

The Peacocks won the tip and scored the first four points of the game and then led 7-2 with 15:57 to play. Marist then used a 19-3 run to take an 11-point advantage, 21-10 at the 7:57 mark. Saint Peter's scored the next eight points to cut the deficit to three and then trailed 26-23 with 2:10 to play, but the Red Foxes ended the half on a 7-2 run and took a 33-25 lead into the break.

Blaise Ffrench scored six points to lead the Peacocks. Devin Price led all scores with 18 first half points for Marist. The Red Foxes shot 48% from the field and held the Peacocks to 36%. Marist outrebounded Saint Peter's 15-11 and both teams committed seven turnovers.

The teams traded baskets and traded free throws to start the second half and Marist led 36-28 at the 16:12 mark. Marist then used the next nine points to go on a 20-4 run and open up a 24-point lead, 56-32 with 5:45 to play. The Peacocks did then go on a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to 60-46, but could get no closer in the final minutes.

Burke was perfect from the field and from the line and had four rebounds and three assists. Ffrench finished with nine points. Price had 20 to lead Marist. The Red Foxes shot 45% from the field and held Saint Peter's to 37%. Marist outrebounded Saint Peter's 33-22 and both teams committed 13 turnovers.

Saint Peter's will return to action on Saturday as they complete their three game homestand against the Manhattan College Jaspers on Hall of Fame Day. Tip-off is slated for 2pm.
