Box Score The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team dropped a 79-34 decision to the Sacred Heart University Pioneers this evening. The Peacocks trailed from beginning to end, failing to attain a lead at any point in the contest.
Kristal Edwards led the squad in scoring for the fourth consecutive time, tallying a team-high 7 points and added 6 boards.
Saint Peter's recorded their poorest shooting performance of the year, finishing the game with a 18.8% (9-48) shooting percentage from the field, 13.3% (2-15) from beyond the arc. The Pioneers shot 42% and 35%, respectively. The Peacocks committed 28 turnovers, while forcing 20. 27 of the hosts' points came off of Peacocks' miscues.
The Pioneers opened up the first half in full control, jumping in front by as many as eight points six minutes into the stanza and forcing Head Coach Stephanie DeWolfe to call an early timeout. During that period, the Pioneers would force five Peacock turnovers. A three-point field goal by Blair Koniszewski at 12:33 opened up an eleven-point advantage, until another three-ball by the junior forward (Koniszewski) made it a sixteen-point game at the mid-way point.
Saint Peter's would end a six minute scoring drought on a three-pointer by Lovisa Hagberg off the dish from Kristal Edwards at 8:55 (22-5). That would be the first field goal for Saint Peter's dating back to their first basket of the game by Edwards at 16:26. During that stretch, the Peacocks went 0-11 from the floor.
The Peacocks managed to tack on four more points in the next minute and change, but the Pioneers proceeded to go on a 14-1 run over the following four minutes to go in front 38-10. Senior Jesika Holmes converted a layup at the buzzer from Khadijah Young to send the Peacocks into the half-time break trailing 43-15.
For the half, Saint Peter's committed 16 turnovers to the Pioneers' 10. The Peacocks shot 20% from the field, 14.3% from beyond the arc, while the hosts shot 44.7% and 42.9%, respectively.
Sacred Heart continued their offensive prowess, opening up their lead to 55-19 heading into the first official timeout of the second stanza. The Peacocks only managed 13 more points heading into the final media intermission (79-32, 2:42 ). The hosts established their largest lead 48, at 3:55 following a layup by Evans.
The Pioneers were led by Kiley Evan's 17 points on 7-18 shooting.
Saint Peter's returns home next Monday, November 26th with a 7pm contest against Akron.
