The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team dropped a 6-2 decision to Rider University this afternoon. The Peacocks trailed 4-0 entering the halftime break, but managed to match the Broncs goal for goal in the second half despite the loss. The Peacocks fall to 1-12, 0-2 MAAC on the season, while Rider improves to 7-3-2, 2-2 MAAC.
The Peacocks found themselves trailing early on, as Rider scored less than three minutes into the opening half. Angela Monaco dribbled up the left side and crossed the ball into the box from the corner, finding teammate Bridgette Bartkowski who headed in the pass for the first Rider goal.
Rider added a second goal, also a header, in the eighteenth minute as Demi Mello took a corner and found Tara Ballay inside the box. Jennifer Meier accounted for the third and fourth Broncs goals, both unassisted, at 24:36 and 30:32, respectively.
For the half, the Peacocks were out-shot 11-3, while the Broncs had a 7-2 edge on corner kicks.
The Broncs added two goals in the second frame, the fifth by Abi Cottam (unassisted) and the sixth by Alexis Coughlin, assisted by Cottam.
Saint Peter's scored their first goal at 77:31, as Maggie Neiswanger served a ball into the box, which Amanda Feldstein crossed to Jamie Lisanti, who netted her team-leading third goal of the year. Junior college transfer Greta Vogel scored her first goal as a Peacock in the last two minutes of regulation to make the score 6-2. Felstein and Emily Fenice registered assists on the shot.
Caitlin Hoffer, who started the first half as goalie, received the loss while recording 2 saves. Nicole Tafrow registered 4 saves in her collegiate debut in goal.
Overall, Rider out-shot Saint Peter's 17-6. 4 of the Peacocks shots were on goal. The Broncs committed 10 fouls, while Saint Peter's committed 5, and registered 9 corner kicks to the hosts' 2.
Saint Peter's returns to action next week on October 12th, as they travel to Buffalo, NY to face off against Canisius College.
