Volleyball Swept By Iona On Senior Day

The Saint Peter's University volleyball team was swept by Iona College on Senior Day. Senior Kassi Wirth recorded 4 kills in her final home match as a Peacock.

Freshmen right side Lauren Behrens led the way with 11 kills, 9 digs and 2 block assists, while Laura Reinhart tallied 8 kills and 5 digs. Junior libero Jenny Pliska finished with a match-high 24 digs.

Set one featured 12 tied scores, the last occuring at 22-22. Iona was able to rattle off three straight points to seal the victory, paced by two kills from Alicja Pawelec.

Saint Peter's found themselves in a hole early on in the second set, trailing 6-2. The hosts managed to claw away and the deficit and eventually tied the game at 11-11. Iona answered back with a 4-0 run to establish separation at 15-11, and would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the frame.

The third set started similarly to the second with the Peacocks trailing by as many as eight points (11-3). Saint Peter's would get as close as four (15-11, 16-12) before a 5-1 run by the Gaels put the game out of reach.

For the match, the Peacocks recorded a .175 hitting percentage to Iona's .273 clip.

Saint Peter's returns to action next Saturday, October 27th, for a 2pm match against Marist in Poughkeepsie, NY.
