The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by Siena College this afternoon. With the loss, the Peacocks fall to 1-15, 0-6 MAAC, while the Saints improve to 6-8-1, 2-4-1 MAAC.
The Peacocks had their best opportunity for an early goal in the twenty-sixth minute, as Emily Fenice took a corner kick and found Greta Vogel in the box. Vogel headed the ball to the far post, but a Saints' player was there and came up with a block. The game remained tied until 31:21, when the Peacocks were called for a foul thirty yards out. Siena's Caitlin Cahalan took the free kick and sent the ball into the upper-90 to put the visitors in front 1-0.
Saint Peter's entered the half-time break trailing 1-0, however they did manage to outshoot the visitors 10-7.
Siena added their second goal of the match with thirteen minutes remaining in the second frame, as Coreena D'Alfonso connected on a shot from 25 yards out. She was assisted by Katie Zambrano.
In the second frame, Siena out-shot the hosts by an 11-3 margin to end the match with a 18-13 advantage. Six of the Peacocks' shots were on target, 2 of which were taken by senior midfield Chloe Zmolek.
Senior keeper Caitlin Hoffer recorded 2 saves in goal in the loss for the home team, while Taylor Booth finished with 6 saves to lead Siena to victory.
The Peacocks return to action this Sunday for their final home contest against Marist College. Seniors Chloe Zmolek, Caitlin Hoffer and Jamie Lisanti will be honored prior to kick-off for their contributions to the Saint Peter's University women's soccer program.
