The Saint Peter's University volleyball team (1-24, 0-11 MAAC) dropped a straight set decision to the Rider University Broncs (10-10, 4-7 MAAC) this afternoon. The Peacocks fell by the scores of 21-25, 24-26 and 18-25. Kassi Wirth led the team with 10 kills on 18 attacks with just 1 error, en route to a .500 hitting percentage.
After dropping the first set by a score of 25-21, the Peacocks missed their best chance for a single-set victory in the second frame when the team nearly pulled off a victory after leading 23-20. Saint Peter's established a lead right out of the gate, pulling ahead 5-2. They held their largest advantage of the set at 23-18, before the visitors went on a 8-1 tear to close out the match.
Despite the third-set loss, the Peacocks compiled their best hitting percentage in the third frame, finishing with a .206%.
For the match, Rider out-hit the hosts .248 to .145.
Laura Reinhart also recorded double-digit kills in the loss, finishing with 12 putdowns and adding 6 digs and 2 service aces.
Saint Peter's return to action this Saturday with a 2pm match against Fairfield.
