In their first home conference game of the 2012 season, the Saint Peter's University (3-9, 1-2 MAAC) men's soccer team defeated the defending MAAC Champions Fairfield University (4-6-1, 1-2 MAAC) by a score of 2-0. Sophomore forward Noah Sadaoui netted the eventual game-winner in the 61st minute off the assist by Marcel Maddee.
Both teams played to a draw in the opening frame, failing to score on a combined 7 shot attempts. The Peacocks held a slight advantage on attempted shots, recording 4 to the Stags' 3. Saint Peter's committed 10 fouls in the half compared to Fairfield's 2.
The Peacocks scored their first goal of the match just over fifteen minutes into the second half, as Maddee took a corner kick and found Noah Sadaoui in the box. Sadaoui drilled the serve into the back of the net at 61:06, for his team-leading 8th goal of the year.
Saint Peter's added an insurance marker at 79:33, as freshman Jacob Robertson sent a pass up the field to senior Betim Bajrami, who beat the Stags' goalie on an one-on-one for a 2-0 advantage.
Senior goalie Carlos Suarez recorded 3 saves for the shutout victory.
For the match, the Peacocks out-shot the visitors 16-5, with 11 of their shots on goal. Saint Peter's was called for 17 fouls, to Fairfields' 4. The hosts took 6 corner kicks, while the Stags were awarded 3.
Saint Peter's returns to action this Sunday for a home contest against the Iona Gaels. Kick-off is scheduled for 1pm.
