The Peahens fell to the Fairfield Stags Wednesday afternoon, by a score of 59-47. Jynae Judson led all scorers with 17 points, just missing a double-double by one rebound (9 total). Judson became the 20th Peahen in the history of Saint Peter's women's basketball to record 1,000 points, after making the first of two free throws at the 14:43 minute mark in the second half. Saint Peter's remains winless on the season at 0-13, 0-2, while Fairfield improves to 9-4, 2-0.
The Stags jumped out to an early 9-2 lead, and never looked back. Fairfield broke open the game in the ninth minute, jumping in front 26-8 to establish their largest lead (18 points) of the contest. The Peahens would get as close as 13 points, before Fairfield closed out the first half, 31-15.
Fairfield out-shot the Peahens 41.7% to 24.1% in the first frame. Judson scored 7 of SPC's 15 points, on 3-7 shooting.
Saint Peter's started off the second half strong by way of a 6-0 run to cut the visitor's lead to 10 at 31-19. The Stags put together their own 9-2 run to reestablish a comfortable 17 point lead at 14:22 (40-23).
Kaydine Bent proceeded to go on a tear, scoring 13 of Saint Peter's final 24 points, going 4-7 from the floor and 5-7 from the line. The Peahens managed to get within 7 seven points at 44-37 (6:33), after Bent went 2-2 from the charity stripe. Fairfield held off Saint Peter's in the final six minutes, outscoring them 15-10, to pull out the 59-47 victory.
Kaydine Bent finished second on the team in scoring, with a career-high 15 points, and added 5 rebounds. Kristal Edwards also notched a career-high in rebounds, totaling 8. Judson also added a team-high 5 assists. Fairfield had three players in double-figures, Alexys Vazquez (15 points), Katelyn Linney (11 points) and Taryn Johnson (10 points).
For the game, Saint Peter's shot 27.3% and 14.3% from three-point range, while the Stags shot 41.3% and 38.1%, respectively. Fairfield finished with 59 rebounds, to SPC's 47.
Saint Peter's travels to upstate New York this weekend, to take the Canisius Golden Griffs, on Saturday at 2pm.
