BUFFALO, NY – Lamin Fulton and Chris Prescott each scored 11 points during a 24-5 run by the Saint Peter's College Peacocks (4-14, 3-4 MAAC) in a 74-60 win over the Canisius College Golden Griffins (4-13, 1-6 MAAC). The run turned a six-point halftime deficit into a 13-point second half lead and the Peacocks never looked back. Prescott finished with 21 points, while Fulton recorded his sixth straight double figure scoring game with 20 points.
Saint Peter's won the tip and scored first, but Canisius scored the next four points to take a 4-2 lead. The Peacocks then used a 10-1 run to take a 12-5 lead with 13:31 to play in the first half. The Griffs then tied the score at 12, scoring seven unanswered points. The score was then tied at 15 before Saint Peter's scored eight straight to take a 23-15 lead with 6:33 to play in the first half. Canisius then used the remainder on the half to go on a 16-2 run and take their largest lead at 31-25 into the break.
Prescott scored six first half points to lead Saint Peter's, while Harold Washington led all scorers with 10 points. The Peacock shot just 33.3% from the field and allowed Canisius to shoot 50%. Canisius outrebounded Saint Peter's 19-11, but committed 11 turnovers to the Peacocks seven.
The Peacocks came out of the break and saw their deficit extended to seven on a made free throw, but then went on a 24-5 run that including 11 points from Fulton and 11 points from Prescott to take their largest lead at 49-36 with 13:11 to play in the second half. Canisius tried to fight back and got to within nine points at 53-44, but six straight by the Peacocks gave them their largest lead at 15 points, 59-44. Saint Peter's extended their lead to as many as 19 points.
Prescott was 5-11 from the field, including 5-8 from behind the arc with three rebounds and two assists. Fulton was 7-13 from the field. Darius Conley added nine points and 10 rebounds, while Chris Burke had seven points and nine boards. Washington scored 19 points to lead Canisus. Saint Peter's shot 45.8% from the field and held the Griffs to 34%. They also shot 52% from behind the arc and 80% from the line. Canisius did outrebound Saint Peter's 35-32, but committed 17 turnovers to the Peacocks 15.
Saint Peter's will hit the court again on Thursday night when they return to the Yanitelli Center to face the Fairfield University Stags. Tip-off is slated for 7pm at the Yanitelli Center.
