Box Score Despite tying the game at 26-26 with less than five minutes left in the first half, the Peahens fell 80-55 to the Sacred Heart University Pioneers this evening. Jynae Judson finished with 16 points on the night, her second consecutive game with double-figure points. With the loss, the Peahens fall to 0-6, while the Pioneers improve to 8-1.
Saint Peter's Lauren Morris scored on the first possession of the game, after they won the opening tip. Sacred Heart responded by creating a 15-2 run, 9 points which came from senior Taylor Callan. During the run, Saint Peter's failed to connect on a field goal for almost four minutes, and went 0-6 from the field, while committing 4 turnovers.
Judson put SPC back on the board at 15-6 by grabbing an offensive rebound off Aminah Davis's missed shot and tipping it in (13:38).
Both teams continued to exchange baskets, until the Peahens put together a 13-0 run. Judson again started the scoring by way of a conventional three-point play at the 8:09 mark, and contributing 4 additional points. Sophomore guard Khadijah Young capped the run with two three pointers, the second which tied the game at 26-26 (4:37).
Sacred Heart regained control of the game however, and finished out the half outscoring Saint Peter's 11-4 in the final four minutes. Blair Koniszewski connected on 5-5 free throws during the stretch.
Entering the second half, the Pioneers continued their hot-streak by way of a 15-2 run. Callan Taylor again had the answer for SHU, sinking two threes in less than two minutes of one another, to put Sacred Heart ahead 52-32 (16:25).
Although Saint Peter's nearly tied the Pioneers point for point (28-25) during the final sixteen minutes of regulation, they were unable to get any closer than 19 points.
For the game, the Peahens shot 36.1% from the floor, and 23.5% from three point range, while the Pioneers shots a blistering 48.4% and 46.2%, respectively. Sacred Heart outrebounded the home team by an 80-55 margin, and committed 14 turnovers to Saint Peter's 21.
Jynae Judson led SPC with 16 points on 7-10 shooting and added 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. Khadijah Young and Aminah Davis were also in double-figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Pioneers were led by Callan Taylor who finished with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Gabrielle Washington and Blair Koniszewski also finished with 10 points a piece.
Saint Peter's returns to action this Saturday, as they travel to West Long Branch, NJ to face the Monmouth University Hawks.
