Peacocks Use Big First Half Run to Take Care of Bearcats

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's College Peacocks (1-3) used a 20-4 run in the first half to build a 15-point lead and never looked back in a 66-43 win over the Binghamton University Bearcats (0-4) tonight. Saint Peter's then started the second half on a 7-2 run that put the game out of reach as they led by as many as 19 points in the second stanza. Yvon Raymond scored a team-high 16 points. Saint Peter's.

It took nearly three minutes for Binghamton to score the first point from the line, but Saint Peter's then got on the board with a three-point play and 3-1 lead with 17:00 to play. The teams traded baskets and the Bearcats had an 11-9 lead at the 11:02 mark.

The Peacocks then went on a 20-4 run to take their largest lead of the season at 29-15 with 1:55 to play in the first half. The Bearcats got to within 12, but the Peacocks scored four of the final five points of the half including a Yvon Raymond lay-up with :01 on the clock to give Saint Peter's a 33-18 halftime lead. 

Raymond led the Peacocks with 10 points. Darius Conley scored nine points in his first action of the season. Robert Mansell led Binghamton with six points. The Peacocks shot 43% from the field and held the Bearcats to 25%. Saint Peter's lost the rebounding battle 19-13, but forced 13 turnovers while committing only four.

 

The Peacocks came out and immediately extended their advantage and used a 7-2 run to take a 20-point lead at 40-20 with 17:10 to play in the second half. Saint Peter's also used an 8-0 run in the half to open the lead up to 26 points and led by as many as 29 points before winning by the 23-point margin.

 

Raymond also had five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Conley ended with 15 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Chris Precott added 14 points. Chris Longoria scored 12 points to Binghamton. Saint Peter's shot 37.5% from the field and held the Bearcats to 31.8%. BU won the board battle 38-32, but committed 20 turnovers.

Saint Peter's will return to action on Saturday, November 26th as they travel to face Seton Hall at 8pm at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
