The Saint Peter’s rookie duo of Jordan Jowers and Thea Ramirez earned honorable mention recognition for Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Student-Athletes of the Year, announced by the league. Jowers, a men’s soccer freshman forward, and Ramirez, a redshirt-freshman softball utility, were nominated as the Saint Peter’s Student-Athletes of the Year for their work in the classroom and on the field.
Ramirez, a 5-7 infielder, was dominant for the Peacocks in her first season leading the team in home runs, RBI, hits, doubles, walks, total bases, extra-base hits, batting average, and slugging percentage. She also ranked second on the squad in runs and on base percentage. Ramirez did not disappoint in Jersey City, ranking among the elite in the conference. Her season totals produced the seventh best batting average (.333), she tied for fifth in doubles (11), she tied for third in homeruns (8), she tied for eighth in total bases (78), and she ranked sixth in slugging percentage (.605). Ramirez earned spots on the MAAC All-Rookie team and MAAC All-Academic team following the 2018 season. She is a Psychology major who boasts a GPA above a 3.4 average.
The duo both also earned Saint Peter’s Student-Athlete of the Year honors for their respective classes in April at the annual athletic awards banquet.
